 There are more than 3500 species of mosquitoes around the world. Some of the common species of mosquitoes are House Mosquitoes (Culex), Southern Mosquitoes (Culex Quinquefasciatus), Asian Tiger Mosquitoes (Aedes Albopictus), Yellow Fever Mosquitoes (Aedes Aegypti).

ONLY FEMALE MOSQUITOES BITE: 

Female mosquitoes require protein to lay eggs and hence they collect the blood from humans and animals for reproducing. But male mosquitoes don't bite humans instead they feed on flowers.

⇢ MOSQUITOES DON'T HAVE ANY TEETH:

Mosquitoes have a long and pointed, needle-like mouth-part called 'proboscis'. Mosquitoes don't have teeth but they have sharp teeth-like edges in their proboscis.

They are cold-blooded (means whose body temperature varies with the environment) insects and prefer temperature of 80 degree Fahrenheit. They can live under 50 degree but are not comfortable. So, in winter, they take shelter and go into hibernation.

→ STANDING WATER:

Any standing water around your place is a threat. It doesn't need to be a lake-size water, even if it is small for e.g. water collected in tires, in small ponds is enough for mosquitoes to lay eggs. 

→ ANY CONTAINER THAT IS LEFT OPEN:

Regularly clean the containers like garbage can, drums, buckets etc and don't keep it open. Make sure you do not throw food directly, try to wrap it into plastic or something so that other insects can't get it.

→ PET BOWLS AND BIRD BATH:

Regularly clean and change the water in the bird bath as it may contain mosquito eggs or any other insects or bacteria.

→ GUTTERS:

Keeping your back yard free from dirty water is very much important and also rain gutters and roof tops should be managed well by removing stagnant water after the rain.



REMEDIES TO GET RID OF MOSQUITOES:

1. MOSQUITO NETS:

For any disease, prevention is the best solution. To get rid of mosquitoes it is better to prevent them from entering your house. You can either cover your windows by fixing nets that you already have or purchase a net from online which will shield you from mosquitoes, if you are having difficulty in fixing windows.

2. COFFEE GROUNDS:

You can sprinkle coffee grounds on the stagnant water or around the water. It will make eggs to float on the water and will kill it before hatching.

3. CAMPHOR:

Burning camphor acts as a repellent for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes cannot stand the smell of the smoke coming out of camphor. Burn the camphor and trap the smoke by closing all the doors and window. You can purchase it in your local store or from online - 100% Pure Camphor Tablets ( 250g X 2)

4. GARLIC:

Items like garlic which has strong odor is a very good repellent for the mosquitoes. Squeeze out the juice from the garlic and add it in the water and use it as a spray in the room.

5. DISH SOAP:

This works as similar to coffee grounds. Either sprinkle or make a spray by mixing it with water and use on the stagnant water and on the mosquito-prone areas.

1. Apply onion slice on the affected areas for a few minutes to reduce the itchiness.
